Private nurses, wound, catheter and IV care

Home visit

Nursing at home

Private nursing at home covers wound care, catheter care, injections and planned IV therapy. A registered nurse visits you, works alongside your NHS team, and tells you what happens next.

Private nurse taking blood pressure during a home visit

This is not an emergency service. If someone has chest pain, stroke signs, severe breathing difficulty, heavy bleeding or collapse, call 999 or go to A&E. We work alongside the NHS, not instead of it.

Private nursing at home is a registered nurse in your house for planned clinical tasks: dressings, catheters, injections, and IV therapy that can safely travel. It is for families who cannot get a parent to clinic, and for people whose NHS visits are not frequent enough for the wound or the catheter that needs watching this week.

A nurse visit is not a GP appointment and it is not personal care. The nurse does nursing. If the wound, the urine, or the drip tells a medical story, they escalate to a GP or to 999. They do not guess, and they do not leave you with a dressing and no plan.

We work alongside district nursing, not instead of it. If you already have a Trust nurse, tell us the days they come. Duplication helps no one. IV therapy, vaccinations and any medicine named on this site is informational: suitability is a clinical decision, and prescription-only products are not advertised by name.

Services in this family

These are the visits we actually book. Each page says who it is for, what happens, who delivers the care, and the from-price.

Who this is for

  • A wound, dressing or pressure area that needs a registered nurse, not a carer
  • Catheter changes, troubleshooting or teaching at home
  • Planned injections or IV therapy that a clinician has already agreed is safe at home
  • Hospital discharge where the first dressings cannot wait for the next NHS slot

When this is not the right service

  • Someone who is bleeding heavily, septic, or collapsing — call 999
  • Personal care only, with no nursing task — that sits under personal and live-in care
  • A first diagnosis of a new illness — start with a GP visit, in clinic or at home

How we arrange care

1. We match the nurse to the task

Wound care, catheters, IV and a general nurse visit are different jobs. Tell us what is already in place from hospital or the Trust so we send the right person.

2. The visit happens at home

Identity, consent, the clinical task, and a note you can keep. If the picture is worse than expected, the nurse stops and escalates.

3. The next visit is dated

You should know who is coming back, and when to call us in between. With consent we can update your NHS GP or district nurse.

Who delivers your care

Registered nurses. Care staff do not do nursing tasks. A GP can be added the same day if the nurse finds something that needs a doctor. Planned IV therapy is only offered where it is clinically appropriate and the right governance is in place.

Working alongside the NHS

Keep your district nurse and NHS GP. We add private capacity for planned nursing at home. We will not take over a Trust package by stealth, and we will not ignore a red-flag change because a private dressing is booked.

Common questions

Is a private nurse the same as a district nurse?

No. District nursing is an NHS service. We are a private visit, booked and priced in advance. Keep your NHS nurses. Tell us their days so we do not clash.

Can a carer change a catheter or a complex dressing?

No. Nursing tasks stay with registered nurses. Personal care staff help with washing and dressing. Mixing those jobs is how people get hurt.

Do you give IV antibiotics at home?

Only as planned therapy when it is clinically appropriate, with the right monitoring. It is not an emergency drip service. Suitability is a clinical decision, not a web booking.

Who is responsible if the wound gets worse?

The nurse documents what they find and escalates. You still call 999 if someone is seriously unwell. A private dressing does not replace hospital when hospital is needed.
