Bloods, ECG, ultrasound and health checks

Home visit

Diagnostics at home

Diagnostics at home include blood tests, ECG, selected ultrasound, vaccination and health checks, with results reviewed by a GP. Clinic diagnostics such as full lab panels remain available at Friends Medical Service.

Private nurse taking blood pressure during a home visit

This is not an emergency service. If someone has chest pain, stroke signs, severe breathing difficulty, heavy bleeding or collapse, call 999 or go to A&E. We work alongside the NHS, not instead of it.

Diagnostics at home are tests that used to mean a clinic trip: bloods, a resting ECG, selected portable ultrasound, agreed vaccinations, a GP-led health check, and rapid bedside tests when the result would change treatment during the visit. They exist for people who cannot easily get to Lurgan, or who we are already seeing at home.

This is not a radiology department on the sofa, and it is not an emergency heart service. Chest pain, collapse, or sudden breathlessness is 999, not a home ECG booking. Many scans and full health-check packages still belong at Friends Medical Service on High Street. We will send you there when the house cannot answer the question.

Clinic bloods, DEXA, travel clinic and sexual health stay on friendsmedicalservice.com so the two sites do not compete. Here we own the home visit: identity, consent, the test, transport to the lab where needed, and a GP review when that is part of the booking.

Services in this family

These are the visits we actually book. Each page says who it is for, what happens, who delivers the care, and the from-price.

Who this is for

  • A patient we are already visiting at home who needs bloods or an ECG without a second trip
  • Someone who cannot travel to Lurgan for a planned test a clinician has asked for
  • A family wanting a GP-led once-over at home, knowing it is not the full clinic package
  • Rapid CRP, INR or glucose during a visit, when the result would change the plan today

When this is not the right service

  • Chest pain, stroke signs or collapse — call 999
  • A full travel-vaccine schedule and destination advice — that is the Friends Medical Service travel clinic
  • Every ultrasound, or a 22-area clinic health screen — those stay in clinic

How we arrange care

1. A clinician decides the test is suitable at home

Portable ultrasound, home ECG and phlebotomy all have limits. If the clinic is safer or more accurate, we book the clinic.

2. We do the test in the house

Consent, the sample or tracing, and aftercare. Rapid tests come back in minutes. Lab bloods go to the laboratory.

3. A GP reviews what needs a doctor

Abnormal results that need urgent NHS care are not held in a private queue. You get a plan, including hospital if the result says so.

Who delivers your care

Trained phlebotomists or nurses for bloods, clinicians trained to record an ECG, a qualified scanner for suitable portable ultrasound, and GMC-registered GPs for interpretation and health checks. Vaccination is only by a clinician authorised to vaccinate, after a history and consent.

Working alongside the NHS

Keep NHS blood tests and screening that you are already due. We can write to your NHS GP with consent. We do not sit on a potassium, an INR or a tracing that belongs in hospital today.

Where we cover

Home diagnostics cover Lurgan, Craigavon, Portadown and nearby villages, with Banbridge, Lisburn, Armagh and Dungannon arranged subject to travel and availability. Some portable tests are only offered where the machine and the clinician can both attend. Call 028 9621 1981 to check.

Pricing

These are visit charges — the clinician comes to you, and tests are charged separately. Home blood test visits from £100 plus the laboratory panel. Home ECG from £305. GP vaccination visits from £250 plus the vaccine. GP-led health checks from £280 plus any tests taken on the day. Portable ultrasound and rapid home testing are coming soon. Full clinic packages remain on the main Friends Medical Service site and are often the better choice.

Common questions

Can every blood test be done at home?

Many can. Some panels, timings and machines still need the clinic. We will tell you which, rather than taking bloods that will not answer the question.

Should I book a home ECG for chest pain?

No. Call 999. A home ECG is a planned tracing, reviewed by a GP. It is not an emergency heart service.

Is a health check at home the same as the comprehensive clinic package?

No. The large clinic packages stay with Friends Medical Service. A home health check is a GP-led visit with a smaller set of tests that can be done in the house.

Do you run a travel clinic on this site?

No. Travel clinic and destination advice are on friendsmedicalservice.com. We can vaccinate at home only when it is agreed and appropriate.
