Private GP
Baby and young child clinic
Private GP advice, assessment and reassurance for babies and children under four. Worried about constipation, reflux, feeding, weight, growth or development? We give you time to talk it through, have your child assessed, and leave with clear advice on what to do next. From £100 at our Lurgan clinic, or in your own home.

Alongside the NHS, not instead of it. Keep your NHS GP. Call 999 in an emergency. Friends Medical GP is for planned private appointments and home visits that are not emergencies.
What we help with
Common worries in the first four years
Is my baby’s bowel habit normal? Could this be reflux? Is my child gaining enough weight? These questions come up for every parent, not only first-time ones.
Baby constipation
Hard or infrequent stools, difficulty passing them, changes in bowel habit, tummy discomfort, and how feeding and fluids fit in.
Baby reflux
Frequent regurgitation, bringing up milk after feeds, discomfort during or after feeding, unsettled behaviour and weight-gain worries.
Weight and growth
Weight, growth, feeding, appetite and general health, with advice on whether further monitoring would be useful.
Development concerns
Movement, communication, speech and language, social development, behaviour and milestones.
Feeding and eating
Difficulty feeding, poor appetite, changes in eating, milk or food intake, and feeding-related symptoms.
You are simply not sure
You do not need to know what is wrong before booking. Bring the worry and we will work through it with you.
Your appointment
An appointment designed for parents
You do not need to know exactly what is wrong before booking. Sometimes you just need a doctor with the time to listen and examine your child.
Listen
Time to explain what you have noticed and what is worrying you.
Assess
An appropriate clinical assessment of your child.
Explain
What may be causing the symptoms, and whether it is likely to be concerning.
Advise
Practical advice on what you can do and what to watch for.
Plan
If monitoring, investigation, treatment or referral is needed, we discuss the next steps.
Clinic or home
Choose what suits your family
Getting a baby or toddler ready to travel is not always easy. A home visit can suit a newborn, more than one young child, an unsettled toddler, or a parent who would simply rather be seen at home.
Good to know
Bring the Red Book
If you have your child’s Personal Child Health Record, bring it along. It helps with weight, growth and vaccination questions.
Children are seen with a parent or guardian present.
This clinic is for non-emergency concerns. If your child is seriously unwell, seek urgent or emergency care rather than waiting for an appointment.
Good to know
Questions parents ask
Does my baby need to see a GP for constipation?
If constipation is persistent, your baby seems uncomfortable, or there are other symptoms, a GP assessment can help work out what is happening and whether further assessment is needed.
Can a private GP assess baby reflux?
Yes. The GP can discuss your baby’s symptoms, feeding, growth and general wellbeing, and carry out an appropriate clinical assessment.
Can I bring my baby for a weight check?
Yes. Bring your child’s Red Book (Personal Child Health Record) if you have it, and we can discuss weight and growth alongside feeding.
Can I discuss my child’s development with the GP?
Yes. Milestones, speech, movement, behaviour and communication are common reasons parents book. The GP will advise whether further assessment or referral may help.
Is this service only for first-time parents?
No. It is often especially helpful for first-time parents, but any parent or carer with a concern about a baby or young child can book.
Do you offer home visits for babies?
Yes. A GP can visit you and your child at home, subject to availability and your location. See baby and young child home visits.
What age is the service for?
It is designed for babies and children under four years old.
Can I book even if I am not sure what is wrong?
Yes. You do not need a diagnosis before booking. If you have a concern about your child’s health, you can talk it through with our GP.
