Advanced Nurse Practitioner Home Visit

A highly experienced Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) comes to your home to assess and treat appropriate conditions, with GP support where required.

About this service

Delivered by an Advanced Nurse Practitioner — a highly experienced clinician qualified to examine, diagnose and begin treatment — this visit gets senior clinical eyes on the problem quickly, with a GP always available in the background for advice and prescribing support.

Is this right for me?

  • You need prompt clinical review but a full GP visit isn't essential
  • A long-term condition has flared and needs assessing
  • An older person needs senior clinical eyes quickly
  • A care home needs a resident reviewed promptly

Important — this is not an emergency service

This is not an emergency service. If the patient has severe difficulty breathing, severe chest pain, is unconscious, has signs of a stroke (face drooping, arm weakness, slurred speech), severe bleeding or is seriously unwell, call 999 immediately.

What can we help with?

  • Clinical assessment and physical examination at home
  • Treatment started immediately where appropriate
  • Observations and rapid home tests where indicated
  • Flare-ups of long-term conditions
  • Same-day escalation to a GP if needed
Not sure whether you need this or a GP home visit? Call us and we'll help you choose.

Frequently asked questions

Is the visit carried out by a doctor?

No — it's delivered by an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP), a highly experienced clinician qualified to examine, diagnose and start treatment. A GP supports in the background and can prescribe or take over where needed.

When should I choose this instead of a GP visit?

Choose an ANP visit when you need prompt senior clinical review and treatment but a full GP consultation isn't essential. If you're unsure, call us — we'll help you decide, and we can always escalate to a GP the same day.

Can the ANP prescribe?

The ANP treats within their scope; where a prescription is needed beyond that, our GP provides prescribing support, often the same day.

How quickly can you come?

We aim to respond promptly, subject to clinician availability and your location.

Can the ANP arrange tests?

Yes — observations and rapid home tests during the visit, and home blood tests or an ECG where indicated.

Do you visit care homes?

Yes, provided a nurse or manager on duty is available during the visit.
